About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Data & AI Solutions Architect to play a key role in designing and delivering scalable, secure, and resilient data and AI solutions. This is an opportunity to help shape modern cloud-based AI platforms, define architectural standards, and influence the adoption of emerging technologies including generative AI, agentic AI, machine learning, and advanced data platforms.

Working as part of an innovative technology team, you will collaborate with engineering, data science, and business stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions while driving best practice in cloud architecture, governance, and AI delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end architectures for AI, machine learning, data, and agentic AI solutions hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Develop scalable, secure, and resilient cloud-native architectures aligned with modern engineering principles.
  • Lead the design and implementation of data and AI platforms using services including BigQuery, Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Vertex AI, Looker, and Cloud Composer.
  • Architect cloud workloads using Kubernetes, service mesh technologies, workload identity, ingress, and secure networking principles.
  • Design API and integration patterns using modern microservices, Istio, Apigee, and enterprise authentication and authorisation standards including OIDC and IAM.
  • Drive architectural direction for AI initiatives including machine learning, LLMOps, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), workflow orchestration, and agentic AI.
  • Ensure solutions comply with security, governance, regulatory, and risk management requirements.
  • Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to develop high-level solution designs and provide architectural leadership.
  • Contribute to architecture governance and design reviews, communicating technical decisions and trade-offs to a wide range of audiences.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience designing enterprise-scale cloud solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong background in modern data architecture, AI, and machine learning technologies.
  • Experience designing scalable cloud-native applications and distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of large-scale data migration programmes, ETL technologies, and modern data movement patterns.
  • Experience designing solutions involving LLMs, RAG architectures, agentic AI, and workflow orchestration.
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes, container platforms, networking, identity management, and cloud security.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to present architectural solutions and influence technical direction.

Desirable

  • Experience with Vertex AI or other model lifecycle management platforms.
  • Knowledge of LangChain, LangGraph, and AI orchestration frameworks.
  • Experience working across multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments (GCP, Azure, AWS).
  • Understanding of enterprise integration patterns and event-driven architectures.
  • Previous experience within banking, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.

Working Pattern

This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of two days per week in the Edinburgh office.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI and data technologies, helping shape enterprise-scale solutions that leverage cloud platforms, machine learning, and generative AI. You'll work alongside highly skilled technical teams, influence architectural standards, and contribute to innovative projects delivering real business impact.
