Established in 1969, the International Society for Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) is the only global multidisciplinary society entirely devoted to paediatric and adolescent cancers. With a steadily growing membership, SIOP currently unites over 4,000 healthcare professionals and researchers worldwide.

Our community shares a strong common purpose: to increase survival rates, improve quality of survival, and ensure care for all. Among other major initiatives, we host an Annual Congress attended by ~3,000 delegates from 134 countries.

The Role 🚀

As SIOP’s activities continue to expand, we are seeking a dedicated Communications and Marketing Manager . You will work closely with the CEO, senior leadership, and the wider team to support our Secretariat, Board of Directors, and global leaders.

Advocacy is central to SIOP’s work. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Director of Policy Affairs and the Advocacy Committee to develop global campaigns.

✨ Digital Transformation: SIOP is currently transitioning to a new AI-enabled membership and communications platform integrated with a redesigned website. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about working with new digital tools and supporting this transformation!

📋 Key Responsibilities

1. Communications

  • Align communication opportunities with organisational priorities to amplify SIOP’s vision, mission, and Strategic Plan 2026-2030.
  • Ensure consistent messaging, priorities, and branding across all marketing channels.
  • Lead on press releases and official statements regarding childhood cancer issues and global developments.
  • Oversee the design and coordination of SIOP publications, including the

SIOP Weekly Bulletin .

2. Social Media &​ Campaigns

  • Develop and manage the annual social media plan across Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, and our WhatsApp Announcement Channel.
  • Lead digital advocacy campaigns in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Grow SIOP’s social media presence through insight-led, data-driven approaches and performance analysis.

3. Marketing &​ Fundraising Support

  • Support the annual membership recruitment and engagement campaign alongside the Chief Programs Officer.
  • Maintain and evolve SIOP’s visual identity guidelines.
  • Partner with the Fundraising Manager to support partner engagement via quarterly newsletters and donor packs.

4. Website &​ Community Engagement

  • Implement website content strategy and oversee regular updates on a redesigned platform.
  • Work with external suppliers to roll out new community/membership engagement software, ensuring smooth content and data migration.

✔️ Key Skills &​ Attributes

  • Freelance Status: Must be willing to work as an independent freelancer under a consultancy agreement.***
  • Language:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (native or near-native proficiency required). An additional language is a plus.

  • Collaboration: Strong team orientation, with experience working across diverse, multidisciplinary, and remote teams.
  • Tech-Savvy:

Proactive mindset with an openness to using AI and digital tools to enhance efficiency.

  • Travel: Willingness and ability to undertake international travel (~2 trips per year; all expenses reimbursed).
  • Setup:

Access to reliable internet and a personal computer for remote work.

🛠️ Desirable Systems Knowledge

  • Social Media: Scheduling tools (e.g., Loomly or similar) and major platforms.
  • Design &​ Email:

Canva, Mailchimp (or equivalent).

  • Web &​ Analytics: WordPress (or similar CMS), Google Analytics.
  • Productivity &​ AI:

Microsoft Office Suite, SurveyMonkey, and experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude or similar) to support content workflows.

🎓 Education &​ Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences (required); Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in communications and marketing, preferably within a non-profit or advocacy-driven international/medical association.
