Job Description

An established international life sciences and diagnostics business is looking to appoint a Health & Safety Executive to join its team at a busy site near Edinburgh

This is a practical, site-based role supporting a working environment that includes laboratories, manufacturing, technical functions and office-based teams.

The successful candidate will work closely with managers and employees across the site to maintain high Health & Safety standards, support compliance and help strengthen a positive, practical safety culture.

The Role

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of Health & Safety policies, procedures and systems
  • Carrying out workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments
  • Supporting COSHH assessments and the safe handling and storage of chemicals
  • Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses
  • Working with managers to identify hazards and reduce operational risk
  • Maintaining H&S documentation, records and reporting
  • Supporting emergency procedures and fire safety
  • Delivering inductions, briefings and Health & Safety training
  • Monitoring compliance with relevant UK legislation and internal standards
  • Supporting contractor safety and site improvement projects
  • Helping develop a proactive safety culture across the organisation

About You

We are keen to speak with candidates who have practical Health & Safety experience gained within a:

  • Manufacturing environment
  • Laboratory or scientific environment
  • Pharmaceutical or medical device business
  • Life sciences organisation
  • Chemical or similarly regulated industry

You are likely to have:

  • A recognised Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
  • Good working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
  • Experience carrying out risk assessments, audits and incident investigations
  • Knowledge of COSHH and workplace chemical safety
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • The confidence to work with employees and managers at all levels
  • A practical and pragmatic approach to Health & Safety

Experience within life sciences, diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals or GMP manufacturing would be advantageous, although candidates from other regulated manufacturing environments will also be considered.

The Opportunity

This is a strong opportunity for an H&S professional who enjoys being visible on site and working directly with operational teams.

Rather than being a purely policy-focused position, the role offers the opportunity to have a direct impact on how a complex scientific and manufacturing environment operates safely and effectively.
