𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲: Orthopedic Surgeon Advisor

Healthcare Shares is seeking experienced orthopedic surgeons to serve as Orthopedic Surgeon Advisors. This role is ideal for physicians with firsthand experience in musculoskeletal care, surgical innovation, sports medicine, joint replacement, spine, trauma, orthopedic devices, ambulatory surgery centers, rehabilitation, value-based care, digital health, healthcare AI, or healthcare innovation.

As an Orthopedic Surgeon Advisor, you will provide clinical, surgical, operational, and strategic insight to help Healthcare Shares evaluate, support, and grow healthcare startups within our venture capital fund, venture studio, and broader healthcare entrepreneurship ecosystem. This is a flexible, remote advisory opportunity for orthopedic surgeons who are passionate about improving musculoskeletal care, surgical outcomes, patient experience, access, affordability, and innovation through entrepreneurship.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀

• Provide clinical and strategic guidance on healthcare startups focused on orthopedics, musculoskeletal care, surgical care, medical devices, rehabilitation, sports medicine, joint replacement, spine, trauma, digital health, healthcare AI, and related areas.

• Support Healthcare Shares in evaluating healthcare startups, founders, business models, clinical relevance, surgeon workflow fit, scalability, patient impact, and social impact potential.

• Advise portfolio companies, venture studio projects, and healthcare entrepreneurs on orthopedic workflows, surgeon adoption, operating room realities, patient care pathways, device commercialization, and go-to-market strategy when appropriate.

• Offer relevant introductions, industry insight, and subject matter expertise across orthopedics, health systems, ambulatory surgery centers, medical device companies, rehabilitation, healthcare technology, and startup ecosystems.

• Participate in periodic advisory discussions and contribute practical recommendations based on your clinical, surgical, and operational experience.

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

• MD or DO with experience practicing orthopedic surgery.

• Board certification or board eligibility in orthopedic surgery preferred.

• Experience in musculoskeletal care, surgical innovation, medical devices, sports medicine, joint replacement, spine, trauma, ambulatory surgery centers, rehabilitation, digital health, healthcare AI, startups, investing, advisory work, or healthcare innovation preferred.

• Strong understanding of orthopedic workflows, surgeon adoption, patient care pathways, operating room needs, device evaluation, and real-world barriers to healthcare technology adoption.

• Ability to commit approximately 2–4 hours per month to advisory board participation and strategic advisory activities.

This Orthopedic Surgeon Advisor role offers the opportunity to receive carried interest in the Healthcare Shares venture capital fund. Advisors may also have opportunities to support Healthcare Shares venture studio companies and startup clients, including potential sweat equity opportunities when applicable.
