Company Description The Middle Level Commissioners are a Risk Management Authority under the Floods &​ Water Management Act, a Navigation Authority, and manage water levels to support irrigation in the heart of the Fens. The organization plays a key role in protecting communities and land through effective water level and flood risk management. The team supports the Commissioners in developing and delivering their vision, ensuring resilient infrastructure and services. They also provide technical and administrative support to Internal Drainage Boards (IDBs) in and around the Middle Level of the Cambridgeshire Fens, working collaboratively with local partners and stakeholders.

Role Description The Technical Services Consenting Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in King’s Lynn. This role involves assessing and processing consent applications related to drainage, water management, and associated activities within the Commissioners’ jurisdiction. The officer will review technical documentation, ensure compliance with relevant legislation and internal policies, and maintain accurate records of consents and decisions. Day-to-day tasks include responding to enquiries from landowners, developers, and partner organizations, providing clear guidance on consenting requirements, and liaising with internal technical teams to support sound decision-making. The role also includes contributing to process improvements, supporting training and information sessions, and assisting with reporting and administrative duties to ensure efficient service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information clearly to a range of stakeholders.
  • Proven customer service skills, with experience handling enquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Basic understanding of finance principles, such as fee structures, cost recovery, and accurate record-keeping for transactions.
  • Experience delivering training or guidance, whether formally or informally, to colleagues, partners, or customers.
  • Awareness of sales or stakeholder engagement techniques, particularly in promoting services and encouraging compliance.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in environmental management, civil engineering, water management, or a related technical field.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
  • Competence in using standard office software and databases; experience with GIS or technical mapping tools is an advantage.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and demonstrate a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
