Senior Clinical Fellow - Respiratory

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the clinical team within Respiratory Medicine as a Senior Clinical Fellow at BHRUT. The post is suitable for an IMT3/ST3 trainee in General Medicine planning to pursue a career in Respiratory Medicine, General/Acute Medicine, or Infectious diseases (ID). The post is initially for a one-year period with the option of extending further if mutually agreeable. This post will provide an excellent opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of Respiratory Medicine including Lung cancer, airways disease, Pleural disease, Thoracic ultrasound, and bronchoscopy. In addition, the post will provide experience in managing acute Respiratory failure including CPAP and NIV. The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by The Royal College of Physicians and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. The Trust has the required arrangements in place, to ensure that all doctors have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports doctors going through the revalidation process. The key duties and responsibilities of the post will be:

• Clinical responsibility for the proper functioning of the Respiratory Unit, including ward rounds, and out-patient clinics.
• Perform practical procedures including Bronchoscopy, Thoracic Ultrasound and Thoracocentesis with appropriate supervision as needed.
• Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including supervision of the junior medical staff, and undergraduate medical students, and take an active part in local and regional educational programmes.
• Work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective team working in the respiratory team for the provision of care to the patients on the unit.
• Develop clinical guidelines/protocols and best practice for the management of a wide range of acute medical presentations /admissions.
• Ensure robust risk management and governance arrangements are in place on respiratory wards, supported by the clinical governance lead.
• Participate in relevant audit and quality improvement programmes (QIPs).
• Liaise closely with the Emergency Department, Medical and Critical Care teams and other in-patient teams to ensure collaborative working arrangements are in place, which maximise benefits to patient care.
