Job Description

Risk and Governance Manager

£60,000 per annum | Full Time | Fully Remote

On behalf of a fast-growing, private healthcare provider delivering Health services nationally, we are seeking an experienced Risk and Governance Manager with a strong background in corporate governance, risk management, compliance and ISO/regulatory audit .

Please note: this role is not aimed at clinical governance professionals — the organisation's clinical governance function is already well established. We're looking for someone whose core expertise sits in risk, compliance, quality assurance and regulatory frameworks, ideally with exposure to a healthcare or other regulated environment.

This is a confidential search being managed exclusively by Gaia Recruitment. The client's identity will be disclosed to shortlisted candidates ahead of interview.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Quality & Governance Director and supervising the Compliance Lead, you will be accountable for building and maintaining a proportionate risk, compliance and complaints framework across a fast-scaling healthcare business. You'll translate regulatory requirements into practical, embedded systems — working autonomously across operational teams to drive a strong risk-aware culture.

This is a genuinely broad governance leadership role spanning risk management, ISO and regulatory compliance, complaints handling under PSIRF, audit and assurance, and governance reporting to the Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain the organisation-wide risk management framework, including corporate and service-level risk registers
  • Act as the key lead for ISO and Quality compliance, including audit programme design, registration, variations and inspection-readiness
  • Maintain compliance oversight across UK GDPR, Information Governance, Health & Safety legislation and contractual/insurer requirements
  • Lead the complaints management process end-to-end in line with PSIRF, including level 4 complaints, appeals and ISCAS referrals
  • Design and deliver PSIRF training in partnership with the Clinical Governance Leads
  • Chair the Quality Assurance Group and produce quarterly audit and governance reports for clinical and quality groups and the SLT
  • Develop, implement and embed policies, procedures and SOPs across quality, risk, complaints and clinical governance
  • Provide day-to-day risk and compliance advice to clinical and operational teams, promoting a learning culture grounded in openness and duty of candour

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • A background in corporate governance, risk management or compliance — not clinical governance — ideally within private healthcare, insurance, or another regulated sector
  • Strong working knowledge of

ISO regulation, auditing and duty of candour requirements

  • Proven experience establishing and managing complaints processes and complex investigations
  • Experience producing and training on risk registers, risk auditing and assurance reporting
  • Demonstrable experience of

PSIRF

  • A risk management qualification and evidence of PSIRF training
  • Strong written communication skills, including drafting complaint responses
  • Evidence of effective leadership and the ability to train others

Desirable:

  • Experience across MSK and/or Mental Health services
  • Experience within private healthcare or remote/digital care models

You will be:

  • Adaptable, assertive when needed, and an excellent communicator
  • Dependable, trustworthy and pragmatic under pressure
  • Self-motivated with a genuine commitment to patient safety and continuous improvement

The Package

  • £60,000 per annum
  • Full time, fully remote
  • Basic DBS check required
